You Don’t Need Another Reminder

When you’re in control of yourself, you’re just better. Much better. If you can stay in control of yourself more often, imagine what you can do.

E+R=O. Event + Response = Outcome.

You can’t control events but you can control your response and that’s how you create great outcomes. Despite hearing this literally since childhood, most people need to be reminded of this basic truth. That’s part of what makes E+R=O such a powerful tool.

Being reminded that you only control yourself after you’ve gotten emotionally derailed trying to control something or someone else isn’t that helpful. It’s a reactive reminder that rarely makes much of a difference at all. 

What’s important is to recognize it before circumstances occur so that you don’t waste energy, get emotionally derailed, and unnecessarily make things worse. You want to stay in control of yourself, not be reminded to get back in control of yourself.

If you train E+R=O properly, it becomes your operating system. It becomes the lens you proactively process situations through before and as they happen, not a reminder after the fact.

If you respond intentionally — not react impulsively — imagine the positive impact you will have. Not just in your own life, but in the lives of everyone you touch.

Everything is training for something. Do the work.
