Everything is an exchange. You give attention, time, and energy (ATE) to things with the expectation of a return on that investment.

You put ATE into work in exchange for money, impact, or security.

You put ATE into reading books in exchange for insight, entertainment, or escape.

You put ATE into competition in exchange for excitement, challenges, or fulfillment.

You put ATE into exercise in exchange for health, performance, or confidence.

These are just examples. You may put attention, time, and energy into different things or similar things for different reasons.

The three big questions are:

  1. What am I giving attention, time, and energy?
  2. What do I expect to receive from that exchange?
  3. What am I actually receiving from that exchange?

Consider sitting down with a pen and paper to put an hour’s worth of your ATE into exploring your answers to these questions. That exchange might reveal surprises, provide clarity, or renew confidence.

The time is now. Do the work.
