Day one of E+R=O

People like to use the phrase, “Control the controllables.” To me that’s self-evident, but lacks the required clarity to make the next move obvious. What are the controllables? How do you control them?

The controllables are within you: your focus, self-talk, emotions, attitudes, actions, and words. Rather than, “Control the controllables”, a more clear and actionable statement is, “Control yourself.”

How do you control yourself? Enter E+R=O (Event + Response = Outcome). To control yourself, start with three things: (1) Control the outcomes you target. (2) Control how you see events. (3) Control how you respond. The better you get at this the more you realize how few do it well.

Discipline is the shortcut. Do the work.

Behind the scenes: Why do I end every DD message with “Do the work”?
