Human nature is a lot like gravity.
- We can resist it, but we always operate within it.
- We can defy it, but only temporarily and in limited ways.
- We can overcome it with tools, but again, only temporarily in narrow applications.
The pull of human nature is a constant force acting on us, just as gravitational pull acts on us. They're both relatively fixed aspects of the natural world. So why do we complain about human nature and not gravity?
The laws of gravity operate with or without your acknowledgment, respect, or understanding. So do the laws of human nature. Follow the laws of gravity, learn to work with them, and you can do some extraordinary things. It just requires some understanding, alignment, and discipline. Is that not also true of your human nature and of the people you engage with?
A life spent misunderstanding gravity would be painful. A life spent misunderstanding human nature might be even more painful.
