Do not allow the opinions of others to stand in the way of your self-improvement. Do not allow their comments to feed your doubts. It's difficult to detach from how you're perceived, yet you must. Anyone who puts their image ahead of their improvement builds their house on quicksand.
A strong character and worthy reputation are not the result of a carefully crafted image but principles lived with discipline and conviction. Pursuing and achieving excellence is the surest way to earn a name people respect. But no matter how principled you are, not everyone will celebrate you. Some will invent reasons to criticize you and your aims. Even people close to you.
Do not fear this or their opinions. Their views are theirs to carry. The approval of those who would criticize you in your effort to improve was never something you needed. Your integrity matters more. Treat people with kindness, but do not compromise your standards. Press on, undaunted, along the path you've chosen.
Years from now, when you reflect on your life, it won't be the approval of others that defines you, but the fulfillment of your purpose and the strength of identity it took to fulfill it.
So, be done serving the expectations of others and focus instead on the higher calling of your higher self.
Brick by brick. Do the work.
