12 moves toward mastering your future

Life is a chessboard of choices. Every decision affects the pieces on the board. Every move limits or expands future moves. Here's how to make moves that win:

  1. Recognize your power. You always have a choice. No exceptions.
  2. Think "how", not "if". Don't ask if you will choose. Ask how you will choose.
  3. Set excellent targets. Make choices that add value, not lower value.
  4. Move with purpose. Push yourself in a meaningful direction and back it with meaningful action.
  5. Own your outcomes. Good or bad, temporary or final, direct or indirect - you chose your way here.
  6. Reflect frequently. Trace your steps. Recall your choices.
  7. Identify defining moments. Recognize the decisions that changed the path, the experience, or the outcome.
  8. Use experience wisely. Don't repeat your own mistakes. Don't make the same mistakes other people make, either.
  9. Be deliberate. Live by design, not by default. Every move matters.
  10. Be decisive. Hesitation is a fatal flaw. Urgency changes the game.
  11. Be alert. Defining moments rarely tell you when they're going to arrive. One thing can change everything.
  12. Be bold. Big choices and big actions lead to big outcomes.

Brick by brick. Do the work.
