“Simple, not easy” is not an excuse

"It's simple, not easy."

I used to say this phrase. Not anymore. I'm done with it.

Not because it isn't true. It is true of many things. I don't use it because I'm tired of hearing it used as an excuse. I don't deal in excuses and won't give oxygen to anything people are likely to use as one.

People use the general truth of "simple, not easy" to support their defensiveness. It’s code to justify a lack of effort, discipline, and skill.

It's a comforting rationalization. Don't want to do that simple thing you need to do and could do? Just say, "It's simple, not easy."

It's a convenient exoneration. Need to explain why you're still average at something simple? Just say, "It's simple, not easy."

"Simple, not easy" has become an acceptable cover for why someone doesn't do the things that work.

I do not accept that. So, I'm done with it.

Brick by brick. Do the work.
