Turn up your attention and effort

Habits are real.

The thing is, you don’t need to break habits or build habits. You need to make choices. Choices you’re capable of making, but aren’t making.

Focusing on habits promotes a passive mindset. A desire to make productive behavior happen automatically. Focusing on choices promotes an active mindset. A desire to make productive behavior happen through attention and effort.

Make good choices long enough (years, not 21 days — that’s BS marketing) and they might form into habits. But whether a productive behavior ever becomes a habit is irrelevant. They’re choices you need to make that require your attention and effort. Start making them.

Embrace the chase. Do the work.
